Exhibition/Terra Collection Initiative: A Will of Their Own: Judith Murray and Women of Achievement in the Early Republic

Centered around the oil painting Portrait of Mrs. John Stevens (Judith Sargent, later Mrs. John Murray) by John Singleton Copley (1770–72), from the Terra Foundation collection, this installation brings together eight portraits of prominent American women to showcase the important achievements of women during this period. Together, they also demonstrate the early efforts to gain gender equality in America.
