Conference: “Anglo-American Artistic Exchange between Britain and the USA”

This international conference explores the significance of Anglo-American cultural relations for the visual arts produced in Britain and the United States since 1776. Although certain periods of this history had been studied, the conference is a systematic consideration of the long-standing and highly charged relationship of British and American art and its implications. Speakers identify the important issues at the heart of the concept of “Anglo-American art,” investigate the idea of artistic exchange across different cultures, and debate the utility of national schools as an organizing principle for American and British art scholarship.
