Debates: “Art, the Artist, Ideology: The American Experience”

This series of debates examines the relationship of art and politics in the United States through four main themes: nationalist ideas and the search for an identity in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries; New Deal policies of the 1930s that conferred on artists a mission of primary importance in American society; the American cultural scene of the post-war period that was dominated by the issues of the Cold War; and artists in the 1960s who became involved in the debate on social inequality. This event is organized by the Terra Foundation for American Art and the Fondation des États-Unis.
