Lecture: “Trompe l’oeil and Modernity”

Judith Barter, the Field-McCormick Chair and Curator of American Art at the Art Institute of Chicago, will address the American trompe l’oeil tradition as a type of painting that contained modern ideas and narratives that reflect a new consumer culture, standardization and professionalism, memory and reality, and the very nature of painting itself. The lecture is included with admission to the Art Institute of Chicago, which is free for Illinois residents on Thursdays. The program will take place in Fullerton Hall, and no registration is required.
