Symposium: “Carrefour Alfred Stieglitz/The Sign of Stieglitz”

Alfred Stieglitz was at the center of American modernist activities in the arts at the beginning of the twentieth century as much through his promotion of modernist tenets championed by his gallery and journal as through his own photography. This week-long symposium brings together American and French scholars to debate and discuss the advent of an American modernism espoused by Stieglitz, including the politics, people, events, science, and technology that shaped it. This event is supported by the Terra Foundation for American Art, the Institut des Amériques, the Université de Rennes 2 (CELAM), and the Université de Poitiers (FORELL).
