Lecture: “Cotton Picking, American Art, and Thomas Hart Benton”

Austen Barron Bailly, the George Putnam Curator of American Art at Peabody Essex Museum, will lecture on the theme of cotton picking and images of cotton pickers in American art in relation to the Art Institute of Chicago’s recent acquisition of Thomas Hart Benton’s 1945 painting Cotton Pickers.

This event is part of the Terra Foundation’s American Art lecture series at the Art Institute of Chicago. The lecture will be held in Fullerton Hall and is free with museum admission.
