TERRA FOUNDATION FOR AMERICAN ART AWARDS MORE THAN $1.8 MILLION IN ITS FALL 2011 QUARTER

(Chicago, Illinois)—The Terra Foundation for American Art awards $1,864,020 for 17 grants, initiatives, and partnerships, which include: support for the 2012–2013 exhibition Claes Oldenburg, a comprehensive overview of Oldenburg's oeuvre from the late-1950s to the present that will travel from Vienna to Cologne to Bilbao; support for three years of funding for the annual Terra Foundation Lecture on American Art at the Chicago Humanities Festival; and support for a series of annual presentations of American art jointly organized by the High Museum of Art, Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, Musée du Louvre, and Terra Foundation for American Art, the first of which will be Encounters with American Art: Thomas Cole. (Chicago, Illinois)—The Terra Foundation for American Art awards $3,191,430 for 27 grants, initiatives, and partnerships, which include: funding for an exhibition co-organized by the Hirshhorn Museum and the Centre Pompidou that examines surrealist sculpture from the movement's inception in the 1920s through the 1980s; support for an international conference on Winold Reiss at the John F. Kennedy Institute for North American Studies in Berlin; an award for a three-part lecture series on historical American art at the Art Institute of Chicago; and continued support for the annual Terra Summer Residency, which will be open to scholars and artists worldwide in 2012. The Terra Foundation for American Art is pleased to announce a new area of funding: Publication Grants. These grants will provide support for publication projects on historical American art (circa 1500 to 1980) that make a significant contribution to scholarship and have an international dimension. The grants are designed to advance and internationalize scholarship on American art and provide individuals outside the United States with greater access to resources in the field.
