Amina Dickerson Biography

Amina Dickerson is an arts activist and patron with decades of experience working with and for artists and arts organizations. She began her theater career in Washington, DC’s Arena Stage and later moved into arts management, including over two decades in museums. Her leadership appointments include positions at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African Art, the Chicago History Museum, the DuSable Black History Museum and Education Center, and the Smart Museum of Art at the University of Chicago.

A seasoned leadership coach, strategist, and facilitator, Amina supports both experienced and emerging leaders in philanthropic, nonprofit, and civic sectors. Her philanthropic career emphasizes the arts, including in her work leading major investments by Kraft Foods in Chicago and nationally. Amina studied theater at Emerson College, and she holds a certificate in arts management from Harvard University and an MA in arts management from American University, where she is a member of the Alumni Hall of Fame.

Amina chaired the City of Chicago’s Cultural Advisory Council for the Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events, as well as the Leadership Advisory Committee of the Art Institute of Chicago. Her work has been recognized by the Association of Fundraising Professionals, the League of Chicago Theaters, See Chicago Dance, and the Auditorium Theater. Her achievements are preserved in The HistoryMakers archives at the Library of Congress.
