Bauhaus: Through Other Stories

On the centennial of the German Bauhaus, the Chicago Architecture Biennial presents a panel discussion on the movement’s multi-faceted legacy (including design research and teaching pedagogy) and continued relevance in the present. Featuring Dutch installation artist Wendelein van Oldenburgh in conversation with Chicago-based photographer Barbara Kasten, the panel explores the role Chicago plays in disseminating the lessons and legacies of the European-derived movement, the visionary contributions of women, and the ways in which the Bauhaus ecosystem has made contact with (or avoided) adjacent concerns and questions of politics. The discussion is moderated by Alison Fisher, Associate Curator of Architecture and Design at the Art Institute of Chicago.
