Collection Loan: Painting the Modern Garden: Monet to Matisse
John Leslie Breck was one of a number of American artists who painted in Giverny during the 1880’s and became part of Monet’s inner circle. Garden at Giverny, by John Leslie Breck, was produced in Giverny between 1887 and 1891. The international exhibition Painting the Modern Garden: Monet to Matisse examines the garden theme in modern art including works by American artists alongside works by European artists who painted the garden in different ways, exemplifying both the representational and the abstract. Breck’s Garden at Giverny is exhibited at the Cleveland Museum of Art venue.
