Christopher P. Heuer, Samuel H. Kress Senior Fellow in the History of Art at the Center for Advanced Study in the Visual Arts, Washington DC, will speak about the appearance of the Arctic in artistic practice from Renaissance times until today. Heuer is author of Dürer’s Motions: Kinetics of the German Renaissance (Reaktion Books, forthcoming), The City Rehearsed: Object, Architecture, and Print in the Worlds of Hans Vredeman de Vries (Routledge, 2009/2013), and Vision and Communism (with R. Bird, et. al) (The New Press, 2011). His curated exhibitions include Vision and Communism, Smart Museum, University of Chicago, 2011 – 2012 (with R. Bird, M. Jackson, T. Mosaka, S. Smith) and Our Literal Speed I: Der Performative Diskurs, Zentrum für Kunst und Medientechnologie, Karlsruhe, 2008 (with M. Jackson and A. Perchuk).
