Lecture: “The Soul of Things: Direct Carving in American Art”

Karen Lemmey, of the Smithsonian American Art Museum, will examine the process of direct carving on the occasion of two recent acquisitions by the Art Institute of Chicago: John Flannagan’s Ram and William Edmondson’s Church Lady. The lecture is included with admission to the Art Institute, which is free for Illinois residents on Thursdays. The program will take place in Fullerton Hall, and no registration is required.
