Pop to Popism will be the first exhibition of Pop art in Australia since 1985. The exhibition will trace the movement’s development in America, the United Kingdom, Europe, and Australia. It will begin in the key years of the movement—the 1960s and early 1970s—and culminate with the new generation of artists that began exhibiting in the late 1970s and developed a postmodern approach to Pop culture. The exhibition will present approximately 180 works from the mid-1950s to the mid-1980s, 65 of which are major American works, including Jasper Johns’s White Numbers (1957) and Andy Warhol’s Triple Elvis (1963).
