To support Joi T. Arcand: kā-isinākwahki itwēwina: The Shape of Words, the artist’s first major solo exhibition in Ottawa, and her largest to date. Since 2009, Arcand (b. 1982) has made cahkipēhikana (Plains Cree syllabics) the focus of her work in diverse media. Her vision for the exhibition is to create an immersive nēhiyawēwin (Plains Cree language) utopia for visitors. Both the catalogue—the first on Arcand’s practice—and interpretive materials will be bilingual (English/nēhiyawēwin).
