To support the three-day conference “Global Encounters in Early America,” which addresses the visual means by which early Americans studied and understood the world. The conference, to be held at the College of the Holy Cross, features a series of academic presentations augmented by pedagogical and professional workshops for specialized audiences. Papers investigate maps, atlases, engravings, paintings, and decorative arts in early America and the ways in which these visual forms informed geographic, cultural, economic, and aesthetic knowledge.
