To support the multi-venue exhibition Samia Halaby: Eye Witness at the Broad Art Museum and the Eskenazi Museum of Art. The exhibition traces Halaby’s journey in inventing an abstract visual language to express her lived experiences. The result is a new consideration of how the Midwest was pivotal to Halaby’s artistic trajectory, re-evaluating an artist of color who is an integral yet undervalued part of American abstract painting and digital art. Halaby’s exhibition, the museum’s first solo presentation dedicated to a Palestinian American artist, reflects the institution’s commitment to responding to social injustices and highlighting underrepresented artists. A scholarly brochure and catalogue accompanies the exhibition.
