To support the Penobscot Basket Exhibition (working title), a co-organized exhibition by Farnsworth Art Museum and Hudson Museum at the University of Maine, which highlights the work of Penobscot basketmaker and tribal advocate Robert S. Anderson (1929–2020) and assesses his lasting impression on contemporary Penobscot basketmakers. The exhibition presents a selection of baskets, tools, and archival photographs to underscore Anderson’s legacy and the Shays’ contributions. It also includes work by approximately ten contemporary Penobscot basketmakers to showcase many key stylistic attributes of Penobscot basketry. A scholarly catalogue and e-publication accompanies the exhibition.
