To support the catalogue and 2008 exhibition Starting from Scratch: American and European Art in
the Aftermath of World War II (1945–49), which examines avant-garde art produced by American and
European artists between 1945 and 1949 and the idea of “starting over from scratch” for artists who
had witnessed the trauma of war.
