To support a series of scholarly round-tables in June 2013, on the occasion of the first retrospective of Lorna Simpson’s work at the Jeu de Paume in Paris. The three round-tables explored the artist’s oeuvre in relation to artistic practices and ideas inherited from the 1960s and 1970s. A total of 11 speakers, including the artist, studied the legacy of the photographic medium, its institutional history, and the debates around race that marked that period.
