To support the planning process for the exhibition Japan/America (working title) at the Geffen Contemporary at MOCA. The exhibition explores a generation of Japanese American artists, architects, and photographers whose lives were disrupted by Executive Order 9066, which led to the displacement of 120,000 Americans of Japanese ancestry on the West Coast of the United States during World War II. To prepare for the project, MOCA hosts four convenings featuring historians, curators, and experts in Japanese and Japanese American art, taking stock of existing scholarship and framing new research questions.
