To support Archibald Motley: Jazz Age Modernist, an exhibition that considers the artist’s work within an early 20th-century international modernist context. Motley’s works include observations of a vibrant and tumultuous African American community in the years just prior to and after the Great Depression, references to late-1920s France, and reflections on the so-called “El Milagro Mexicano” in post-WWII Mexico. Grant funds support the presentations at the Nasher Museum (January–May 2014) and the Chicago Cultural Center (Spring 2015).
