To support the catalogue and the 2008–2009 exhibition Art in the Age of Steam: Europe, America,
and the Railway, 1830–1960 at the Nelson-Atkins Museum and related educational programs at the
Walker Art Gallery (Liverpool, England). The exhibition examines paintings, photographs, drawings,
prints, and posters created by international artists that date from the invention of the railroad in the
1830s through the end of the steam age in the 1950s.
