To support the development of Photography and Abolition in the “Age of Pictures” (working title), an exhibition that highlights the various ways photography and the abolitionist movement coalesced from the 1830s to the 1860s to further the cause of antislavery and to wage the struggle for social justice. The exhibition includes works from the Nelson-Atkins’ nineteenth-century American photography holdings alongside a selection of primarily loaned works by renowned contemporary artists to create a dialogue with the historical material.
