To support the borrowing of Hiram Power’s The Greek Slave (1844) along with a two-day colloquium, to be held in October 2014 at the Yale Center for British Art, in conjunction with the exhibition Sculpture Victorious: Art in an Age of Invention, 1837–1901, co-organized by the center and Tate Britain. The colloquium examines the role of The Greek Slave in both a British and international context, bringing together scholars from both sides of the Atlantic to discuss the statue, its maker, and the broader cultural context they inhabited.
