Smarthistory: Seeing America

Smarthistory’s Seeing America brings the long history of the United States to life using works of art as primary sources. Through videos and essays, it provides a short-form multimedia introduction to American history through American art, bringing learners to museums virtually across the country.

The project’s conversational video content creates an intimate and engaging learning experience. Smarthistory has worked closely with educators and curators at 17 leading museums and collections to develop this online educational content.

The collection of object-centered videos and essays is available at smarthistory.org.

Seeing America is funded by the Terra Foundation for American Art and the Alice L. Walton Foundation.
