Terra Foundation Collection Research Fellowship in American Art at Museum Ludwig

Janice Mitchell is the 2018–2020 Terra Foundation Collection Research Fellow on American Art at Museum Ludwig, where she will conduct research on the museum’s permanent collection of postwar American art.

This two-year fellowship is designed to spearhead in-depth, original research and reflection on the Museum Ludwig’s permanent collection of American art with particular attention to archival and contextual materials. The fellow joins the museum’s staff during the residential fellowship and works with curators to research individual artworks and propose a re-installation of several galleries that will include source material, ephemera, and related works.  The program supports new scholarship in a museum context and enhances an ongoing dialogue in Europe about postwar American art, with a particular focus on issues from postcolonial, gender, and queer studies. The fellow will share research progress with the general public through a blog, with entries in German and English.
