Communications Associate, Art Design Chicago (Chicago)


The Terra Foundation for American Art is searching for a professional to provide communications support for Art Design Chicago (ADC), a citywide initiative highlighting the many voices and stories that are part of Chicago’s artistic identity and creative communities. The Communications Associate will play a key role in amplifying those stories by creating content, maintaining the digital presence for Art Design Chicago, and contributing to communications strategy. This is a temporary, 30-hour/week position through March 2025.

Who should apply? You should apply if you:

  • Have demonstrated familiarity with the language used in writing about the visual arts and have applied strategies for engaging the public in visual arts activities
  • Demonstrate strong written and verbal English skills and a record of effective storytelling through writing and digital media
  • Have professional experience producing content for and managing a variety of social media platforms and with a variety of email- and content-management systems
  • Are proficient with platforms for data analysis, presentation, and design (Adobe Creative Suite preferred)
  • Have experience or requisite skill to track and analyze metrics to gain insights and inform strategy
  • Can perform detail-oriented work independently, with supervision, and as part of a team
  • Have strong time-management skills and the ability to complete all activities accurately and on deadline
  • Are comfortable with quickly changing priorities
  • Are located in the Chicago area

What will the Communications Associate do?

  • In collaboration with the ADC team, ADC grantees, and external content creators, the Communications Associate will draft and/or edit written content; source, edit, and/or create images, graphics, and video; and post to:
    • Social media platforms including but not limited to Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, and Vimeo
    • Art Design Chicago website event pages and stories pages
    • Email marketing platform (MailChimp)
  • Coordinate with the foundation communications team to cross-post content on foundation channels and generate story ideas, as needed
  • Ensure accuracy of content represented via ADC communications channels
  • Monitor and report on social media, e-communications, and website metrics
  • Assist in drafting written content for print collateral, presentations, and reports as needed
  • Track and organize all digital assets and coordinate rights and reproduction for internal and external assets
  • Contribute to the evaluation of ADC and the dissemination of impact assessments internally and externally
  • Other duties as assigned, including participating in internal discussions and meetings

 What is the term, time commitment, and compensation?

Reporting to the Art Design Chicago Project Director, the position is approximately 4/5 time (30 hours per week), temporary (through March 2025), with an annual salary of $50,000, plus benefits (health care, dental and vision coverage, 403 (b) savings plan, sick paid time off, and more). The Terra Foundation is currently operating on a hybrid in-office/remote work model.
