“Wild Noise: Art in Times of Change” at Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes

June 18, 2015
Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes, Havana

The initiative Wild Noise: Artwork from The Bronx Museum of the Arts and El Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes represents the most extensive visual arts exchange between Cuba and the United States in more than 50 years. For this groundbreaking project, the Bronx Museum of the Arts and El Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes (MNBA) present two thematic exhibitions of key works from their respective permanent collections: Wild Noise runs at MNBA from May 21 to August 16, 2015, concurrent with the 12ª Bienal de La Habana;  the complementary exhibition travels to the Bronx Museum from October 2, 2016, to February 12, 2017.

To deepen understanding of the visual arts of the United States and provide free, public opportunities for interactions and cross-cultural dialogue between distinguished American scholars and audiences in Havana, the Bronx Museum develop this day-long symposium consisting of three panels based on themes that reference or incorporate pre-1980s American artwork featured in the Wild Noise exhibition.  These themes are relevant to both the US and Cuba, reflecting important historic movements that influenced American art (primarily in the 1970s) and representing the opening of a scholarly dialogue not previously shared publicly between the US and Cuba.
