Guidelines for Use

Academic and Educational Use

Many images of artworks in the Terra Foundation Art Collection are available for download for academic or educational use from the Terra Foundation for American Art website. If a downloadable image is available, the download link appears alongside the image and required caption and credit line. The foundation asks that the caption and credit line provided be used in all academic uses.

The user is solely responsible for the download or use of any images from the Terra Foundation for American Art websites. It is the responsibility of the user to verify or to accept any rights information provided as well as to obtain any additional permission or clearances that may be required for images of artworks protected by copyright or a third party.

The foundation also makes high-resolution images available through the Artstor Digital Library. For information on Artstor access and accounts, please visit their website. Access to Artstor may be provided by your academic institution.

Museums, scholars, and nonprofits are encouraged to request permission using the contact information detailed below, to receive high-quality images suitable for publication.

Copyright

Copyright for certain images of works in the Terra Foundation Art Collection may be held by a third party, such as an artist’s estate or artist groups, in addition to the Terra Foundation. Once we receive your request, we may advise you about third-party rights. As an end user, you are solely responsible for the use of any images from the Terra Foundation. Reproduction of any images © Artists Rights Society (ARS) or images © VAGA (Visual Artists and Galleries Association, Inc.) is prohibited without written authorization from:
