Shared Acquisitions

The Terra Foundation co-acquires collection objects with museums that contribute to broader understandings of American art. This type of collection acquisition embraces new ownership models in which works can be co-acquired with the aim of increasing these objects’ visibility in a shared, publicly accessible collection of American art.

Program Overview

In partnership with invited institutions, the foundation identifies and co-acquires works of art that then enter both collections, their ownership and stewardship shared by both organizations. In most instances, the works are located with the partnering institution unless on loan to another institution. The program encourages transformative modes of practice within both our own organization and the field. We welcome loan requests for shared acquisitions. This program is by invitation only.

Shared Acquisitions

The Terra Foundation partnered with the Spelman College Museum of Fine Art to co-acquire three works in honor of Mary Schmidt Campbell, PhD, the tenth president of Spelman College. These works are the first objects by Augusta Savage and Calida Rawles to enter both collections.
