Collection Loan: Whistler and Roussel: Linked Visions
In this exhibition, works by James McNeill Whistler, Theodore Roussel, and their circle, demonstrate the artistic exchanges of British and American artists in the late 19th century. A network of models, studio assistants, and patrons contributed to the innovation and creativity reflected in these works, which in many cases represent breakthrough developments in the techniques of lithotint, transfer lithography, and color etching. The exhibition features five works from the Terra Foundation collection:
- James McNeill Whistler, Reclining Nude, 1893/1900
- James McNeill Whistler, A Chelsea Shop, between 1894 and 1895
- James McNeill Whistler, Carlyle’s Sweetstuff Shop, c.1887
- James McNeill Whistler, Maud on a Stairway, 1884–85
