To support the exhibition She Laughs Back: Feminist Wit in 1970s Bay Area Art, opening in February 2024 at the University Library Gallery at Sacramento State. The exhibition presents two- and three-dimensional artworks in various media created by women based in the region during the “long 1970s” (c. 1965–85). The exhibition, events, website, and accompanying catalogue explore strategies of feminist humor to challenge gender stereotypes widely questioned in the 1970s, a decade marked by far-reaching shifts in consciousness.
