To support Southern/Modern at the Georgia Museum of Art, the Frist Museum of Art, and the Dixon Gallery and Gardens. The exhibition takes a broad, inclusive view of artists working in the South, including the central role played by female artists and artists of color. It is the first project to provide a comprehensive survey of progressive art created in the American South during the first half of the twentieth century. A scholarly catalogue accompanies the exhibition.
